Public Hunting Customized for the Upscale Market
Years ago, hunters drove deep into woods and fields to hunt for deer and other game at public hunting grounds. The hauled in their game, cooked their own food, and bedded down in small tents for the night or stayed at a nearby motel.
Next, upscale hunting outfitters began lodging corporate clients who hunted on private land managed by the outfitter, typically surrounded by a high fence. Guides lead hunters to the deer, dressed the kill, and hunters enjoyed gourmet meals at luxury cabins. While this was a nice change from the typical golf outing for many corporations, for true hunting enthusiasts, it left something to be desired.
Now the trend is going back to public hunting, even for corporate outings. Nearby hotels and bed and breakfasts provide more upscale lodgings than the traditional motels that dotted the landscape near public hunting grounds. While more planning is involved for companies hosting pubic hunting excursions, hunting enthusiasts are permitted a real hunting experience, with no guides and no fenced in land. These excursions also do not deter those corporate employees that are not hunters, if there are other local attractions to enjoy.
Some hunting locations are extremely crowed, but company research can locate public hunting grounds that are less frequented by the general public. Even if no one takes a deer, the outdoor experience and casual hunting climate will be a welcome change of pace for employees.
